The Newest Tour Of Open Studios In Central Texas

This spring, Art on the Rock, an open studio tour of eight creative spaces, will host an inaugural event on March 28th, 2020 from 10 AM – 5 PM at different locations in the Lime Kiln/ Hilliard neighborhood of San Marcos, Texas. 

The Lime Kiln/ Hilliard area has been home to artists and makers for many years now, including the pioneering Eye of the Dog Art Center, a community of clay and ceramics artists.

Recently, more artists’ have been moving their workspaces and studios to the area. Art lovers are invited to step into the world of an artist and see creatives working in their spaces.

Eight studios, Red Zipper Art Studio, Holcombville Pottery, River City Glassworks, Eye of the Dog Studio, TreeHaus Studio, Diana Seidel, Arcidiacono Studio, and Rio Claro Studio have coordinated an event to shine a light on the creative work being done outside San Marcos’ city center.

Ceramics, pottery, sculpture, stained glass, textiles, fine art, encaustic paintings, and more will be on display.

The artists represented by the studios are Billy Ray and Beverly Mangham, Katherine Welch, Teri Muse, Bridget Hauser, Cecy Holcomb, Jolea and Peter Arcidacono, Diana Seidel, Gigi Mederos and Stevie Black.

Additionally, studios have invited artists to join them and the list includes; Carol Schwartz, Madeline DeStefano, Ty Johnson, Lacy Weyler, Lisa Smith, Gerald Kurten, Lindsey Browning, Rebecca Polk, Ryan Peterson, Roberta Lang, LeBeth Lammers, Jeff Dell, Thomas Myers, Debbie Gibson and Michelle Sotolongo.

A total of 26 artists and their work will be part of the inaugural event.

The public is invited to visit the area, tour each studio, and see the different kinds of works being created within each and engage with artists.

Some artists will be working and/or doing demonstrations; each in their own practice. The one-day is family-friendly and free to all.

The Lime Kiln/ Hilliard Road neighborhood is tucked between the Blanco River, the sacred space of Spring Lake, and the wilds of Wimberley beyond to the west, it can only be accessed by turning off Post Road at the Texaco station.

A map of the area will be available online and at each of the eight studios. Signage will be placed along the road to help with wayfinding.
