In the heart of town, off of Thorpe Lane, Springtown Mall recently sat empty. Within the past few months, some of its bare signs have had a makeover, and it’s now booming with new businesses.

Among these is going to be an entertainment lounge called The Spot: Cinema Eatery & Social Haus. Long time citizens of San Marcos know the location as the old Target.

Owned by EVO Entertainment, the president and chief executive, Mitch Roberts, plans for The Spot to be “unlike anything anyone has ever experienced.”

Roberts, who was born and raised here in San Marcos, said it’s special to him to have The Spot right here in his hometown. He is the fourth generation in his family to be in the cinema business, which goes all the way back to unveiling drive-in movie theatres.

The concept was first proposed in San Marcos’ planning and zoning commissioners meeting on July 26, and The Spot was approved by all sides.

On October 14, the public will find out what’s inside of the “36,000-square-feet of awesome” said Roberts. Awesome is right!

The Spot plans to host a social atmosphere, featuring a full-service dine-in movie theatre with six screens, a wrap-around bar and lounge area, an entertainment stage, a semi-outdoor patio breezeway, an arcade, full-service bowling and private rooms for events small to large.

Contrary to what you’re probably thinking, The Spot isn’t going to be another EVO. Being eighteen and up, the age restriction will create an environment for millennials and adults to unwind and have fun, away from the kids.

They are also creating a whole new food and cocktail menu that will be served throughout the entire building. Their unique cocktail menu will have a variety of craft cocktails, martinis, and margaritas and over 100 taps.

Their food menu will feature starters, soups, salads, pizzas, burgers, and deserts. Roberts will only give away that there will most likely be a happy hour.                                                                               As far as when, you will have to go once they open to find out!

The Spot’s theaters will be filled with these large leather reclining chairs with swivel trays and cup holders.

“The building is designed with private events in mind,” Roberts said of the event spaces. San Marcos will soon find out what secrets lie behind their doors, for they have events planned their whole opening week, to be announced.

The dine-in movie theatre expects to be unlike any of its kind. With spacious, automatic lounge chairs for seating, viewers are sure to have a superior dining and viewing experience.

The Spot is also hiring to fill all of their positions. For more information on jobs that they have available, you can go to www.evo-entertainment.com/employment.
