Staff Report
Last week Kyle started the long awaited reconstruction of Lehman Road. Kyle residents should be prepared for detours during the roadwork.
Underground utilities will kickoff this reconstruction project, with an estimated project wrap up timeline of 24 months and the closed portion of FM 150 to Masonwood to last several months.
However, inclement weather and other issues can affect the anticipated schedule throughout the entire project.
Motorists should be prepared for detours and closures during the the construction period. The contractor is required to display signage in advance of traffic changes, lane shifts, detours and closures.
The Hays CISD transportation department has been informed of the detours and is planning bus routes accordingly. Student drivers who use Lehman Rd. from FM 150 should use the detours listed below.
For updates on current road closures and detours due to construction, please click here.
• Burleson St.: Began Construction September 2018 (approximately 24-month project) — This is a planned major reconstruction of the road and part of the 2013 road bond approved by Kyle voters. The work involves moving utilities and adding turn lanes.
The section between Miller to Center (in front of Old Kyle City Hall/Krug Activity Center) is now open! The section of Burleson from Center to Lockhart is anticipated to open sometime in May; the city will know more specific details in the coming weeks.
Some minor disruptions to traffic in the coming weeks may be needed as the city still has some pending work (illumination, landscaping). Officials will use social media to communicate any issue/temporary closures if needed.
Contractor currently has the following portion of Burleson closed: from Center to Tenorio St. (by St. Anthony’s Church). Side streets are passable for local traffic only. Detour signs are posted. Detours go through the Silverado and Spring Branch neighborhoods.
Drainage work has commenced at St. Anthony’s.

**Note: as work moves north toward Marketplace, the contractor will set new detours. We will work to keep everyone updated.**
• Lehman Rd.: Began Construction February 2019 (approximately 24-month project) — The Lehman Rd. closure now extends from FM 150 to just south of Hiver St.
Our contractor believes they can complete the road reconstruction from FM 150 to just S. of Hiver Street by January 2020*. As the work progresses, the city will provide an update of new closures and section openings.
*Weather and other issues can impact or delay the start date for new closures, and for any work on the overall project.
Also, the contractor is working in front of the Public Works facility on FM 150. The staff at PAWS has been notified as some of the work and closures may affect their parking lot and access, as well as where volunteers can walk the dogs.
The contractor continues to work on the City’s utility work between Lake Kyle and Public Works. They are approximately 40 percent complete with the placement of the 48″ casing for the 30″ wastewater line, no work has been completed on the City’s 12″ reclaim water line that is being placed in the same area. The Lake Kyle required excavation is expected to be completed by the end of next week, after which road work can commence in the low water area.
IMPORTANT NOTE: As of March 29, the city and contractor are in agreement that the Pie in the Sky Festival over Labor Day weekend will take place at Lake Kyle as expected.
Also, the contractor is working in front of the Public Works facility on FM 150. The work involves lowering the stormwater grate, moving to place the water barriers, and excavating. The staff at PAWS has been notified as some of the work and closures may affect their parking lot and access.
• Marketplace Extension: This road is slated to open Monday, April 22.
This is the new road from the circle at Marketplace and Burleson St. east to the I-35 Frontage Rd. It is part of the 2013 road bond approved by Kyle voters. Barricades are still up; please do not go around them – they are there for your safety.
NOTE: The safety light will be installed once the materials are available to the contractor.
Please note that the Lehman and Burleson projects involve a complete overhaul; utilities are being moved and crews are doing major reconstruction of the roadways. The City of Kyle has asked motorists to be patient throughout the duration of the project.
