All Hays CISD campuses, with the exception of three, will resume in-person instruction on Wednesday Feb. 24. Fuentes, Hemphill, and Tom Green Elementary Schools will conduct 100% virtual instruction for the remainder of the week and are projected to return to in-person instruction on Monday, March 1.
Due to the winter storm last week, Fuentes, Hemphill and Tom Green Elementary Schools are still undergoing storm restoration efforts. Because of water damage to these campuses caused by broken pipes students are unable to return until the issue is resolved.
All but one Hays CISD campus has adequate water supply and is no longer impacted by a boil notice. If the restrictions are not lifted before classes resume the district will provide bottled water to the affected campus.
Although the district is still assessing damage costs to buildings, they predict that one deductible of $25,000 will be paid to their insurance company for the entire winter storm event. Hays CISD is anticipating having the damage costs reimbursed through federal or state disaster relief money.
