Three Texas State Bobcats Pick Up Yearly SBC Indoor T&F Awards

For the second SBC indoor meet in a row, she won four gold medals to score 32.5 points and earn the Women’s Meet Higher Scorer award.

NEW ORLEANS – On Friday, the Sun Belt Conference announced its yearly indoor track & field conference awards which saw Texas State’s Chelsie Decoud, Tramesha Hardy and Jody Stewart earn honors.

Decoud was named co-Women’s Most Outstanding Field Athlete of the Year, Hardy was selected the Women’s Most Outstanding Track Athlete of the Year and Stewart was picked as the Women’s Head Coach of the Year.

Decoud claimed her fourth consecutive gold medal in the high jump after clearing a school, conference meet and SBC record 1.88m (6-2). She did so basically on one leg to qualify for the NCAA Division I Indoor Championships with the third-best clearance this season. The senior shared the award with UTA’s Alexus Henry.

It was the second straight year that Hardy received her honor. For the second SBC indoor meet in a row, she won four gold medals to score 32.5 points and earn the Women’s Meet Higher Scorer award. The Houston native won the 60m, 200m, 400m and ran the anchor leg of the 4x400m relay. All three of her individual times ranked in the top 10 in program history.

Stewart picked up his third consecutive indoor coach of the year honor and second straight for the women’s team performance. The Bobcats claimed seven gold medals on their way to the indoor title.

Along with Decoud and Hardy, Devina Schneider claimed gold in the 3000m that saw her take over the lead for the first time at the beginning of the final lap, and Kylah Smith won the 60m hurdles with a personal best preliminary heat time of 8.45.

Decoud will compete in the women’s high jump on Friday, March 2 in College Station, Texas at the NCAA Division I Indoor Championships beginning at 6 p.m. The outdoor season starts for TXST at the Roadrunner Invitational in San Antonio on March 23-24.
