The San Marcos Arts Commission is seeking designs for two traffic box “mini-murals” located at the intersections of Moore and Hutchison Streets and Hopkins and Comanche Streets.
Prospective artists have until June 4 at 5 p.m. Central Time to submit their designs. The selected artist or artists will be paid $400 per design. Successful art submissions should convey the themes of walkability and resilience, especially in the downtown San Marcos area.
The winning designs will be digitized and printed on vinyl wraps to be applied to the traffic control boxes, creating exciting public art for pedestrians and drivers to enjoy while deterring graffiti and vandalism.
This successful program has placed art on City-owned traffic boxes in other areas of San Marcos, including Ranch Road 12 and Sessom Drive.
