Beginning Thursday, March 23 at 11 p.m. until 5 a.m. Friday, March 24, a north and southbound rolling closure will occur on the I-35 mainlanes and ramps from Cesar Chavez Street to Rundburg Lane.
The closures will be short, with ramps and mainlanes being reopened as work is completed, and will allow construction crews to safely remove an overhead sign bridge between Airport Blvd and 51st Street.
During the intermittent closures, traffic will be diverted to the I-35 frontage roads.
Road signs have been placed to alert drivers of the closure. Motorists should allow extra time to travel through the area during the affected hours. TxDOT asks the traveling public to be patient and remain aware when traveling through the work zone.
This work is part of the I-35 at 51st Street project to improve mobility and safety along the interstate. The project includes adding a southbound intersection bypass lane, reconfiguring the entrance/exit ramps, and realigning the southbound frontage road to add a new roundabout.
Bicycle and pedestrian enhancements will also be made within the project limits.
