Traffic Alert: Upcoming Traffic Shift Along Westbound SH 71 near FM 973

A temporary traffic shift will occur on the westbound lanes of SH 71 near FM 973 on Saturday, Sept. 24, and will last for approximately six weeks. Delays may occur from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sept. 24. Austin-Bergstrom International Airport traffic is advised to take an alternate route.

The shift will move westbound traffic from the current configuration on the general purpose lanes to the new SH 71 overpass at FM 973.

The existing traffic shift that occurred earlier in the summer for westbound lanes at the SH 130 overpass will remain in effect. All westbound traffic will continue to utilize the SH 130 overpass, as well as the existing detour for westbound SH 71 to north or southbound SH 130.

Westbound traffic will be in this configuration for approximately six weeks.

Westbound SH 71 Traffic

• Coming soon – Westbound traffic will now continue on the new SH 71 overpass at FM 973 toward Austin
• Coming soon – Westbound traffic will merge with the general purpose lanes near Terry Lane
• Coming soon – A double lane closure of the inside westbound SH 71 general purpose lanes will be in effect from SH 130 to Terry Lane
• Already in effect – Westbound traffic will continue to be able to exit the SH 130 overpass to access northbound FM 973
• Already in effect – A full closure of westbound SH 71 from Onion Creek to SH 130 will be in effect
• Already in effect – Westbound traffic to utilize the SH 71 overpass at SH 130

Existing Detour (already in effect) – Westbound SH 71 Traffic Accessing North or Southbound SH 130

•  Westbound traffic that would like to access north or southbound SH 130 will continue to be detoured
• Westbound traffic will continue over the SH 71 overpasses at SH 130 and FM 973 to the U-turn at Presidential Boulevard, or the next available U-turn point
• Traffic will head back east to access SH 130
