Traffic Alert – What To Expect This Week On I-35

TxDOT knows you’ve got to get where you need to go.

everything they can to minimize disruptions.

I-35 CAPITAL AREA CORRIDOR MOBILITY

Closures, Detours, Traffic Alerts

for February 29 – March 6

I-35 AT POSEY ROAD

PROJECT OVERVIEW | This project will construct a new overpass on I-35 over Posey Road, add two new U-turns in each direction at Posey Road, perform ramp reversals and convert two-way frontage roads to one-way.

Currently, the I-35 main lanes go under Posey Road. The new configuration will have the I-35 main lanes going over Posey Road.

  • Posey Road bridge closed at I-35.
    ° Until further notice
  • Northbound I-35 Posey Road exit (#199) and Centerpoint Road exit (#200) are closed.
    ° Until further notice

I-35 FROM STASSNEY LANE TO WILLIAM CANNON DRIVE

PROJECT OVERVIEW | The project will reconstruct the bridge structures at Stassney Lane and William Cannon Drive, as well as the frontage road bridge over Williamson Creek.

New U-turn bridges will be added in both directions at Stassney Lane and William Cannon Drive, and the I-35 main lanes will be widened to incorporate shoulders and extended entrance/exit lanes to allow for better merging.

Bicycle and pedestrian enhancements are also being made, and new safety lighting is being installed.

  • Eastbound Stassney Lane right turn lane closed at the I-35 frontage road.
    ° Saturday, Feb. 29 form 7 AM until 5 PM
  • Eastbound and westbound Stassney Lane left lane closed at the I-35 frontage road.
    ° Saturday, Feb. 29 from 7 AM until 5 PM
  • Southbound I-35 frontage road right lane closed at Little Texas Lane.
    ° Sunday, March 1 from 8 PM until 5 AM
  • Northbound I-35 Slaughter Lane entrance ramp closed.
    ° Sunday, March 1 from 8 PM until 5 AM
  • Northbound I-35 frontage road left lane closed at William Cannon Drive.
    ° Sunday, March 1 from 8 PM until 5 AM
  • Northbound I-35 left lane closed from Slaughter Lane to SH 71.
    ° Sunday, March 1 from 10 PM until 5 AM
  • Southbound I-35 frontage road right lane closed daily at Stassney Lane.
    ° Monday, March 2 through Friday, March 6 from 9 AM until 3 PM
  • Northbound and southbound I-35 frontage road left lane closed at Stassney Lane.
    ° Thursday, March 5 from 8 PM until 5 AM

I-35 AT OLTORF ST.

PROJECT OVERVIEW | Improvements include the reconstruction of the Oltorf Street bridge, improving entrance/exit ramps and frontage roads.

Additionally, construction of new extended entrance/exit lanes for main lanes and ramps, and adding U-turns in both directions at Oltorf Street.

Bicycle and pedestrian enhancements will also be made along the I-35 frontage roads in each direction within the project limits.

  • Southbound I-35 right lane closed from Oltorf Street to Woodward Street.
    ° Monday, March 2 from 10 PM until 6 AM
  • Southbound I-35 closed from Oltorf Street to Woodward Street.
    ° Tuesday, March 3 from 11 PM until 5 AM

I-35 FROM RUNDBERG LN. TO US 290 EAST

PROJECT OVERVIEW | This project includes main lanes and frontage road reconstruction and the addition of three new flyovers at US 183.

The project also includes reconstruction of the St. Johns Avenue Bridge, the addition of frontage road U-turns on both sides, intersection bypass lanes under St. Johns Avenue in both directions, extended entrance/exit lanes, and ramp and shoulder improvements.

  • Northbound I-35 frontage road left lane closed from Camino La Costa to St. Johns Avenue.
    ° Through mid-2020
  • Northbound US 183 frontage road left lane closed from I-35 to Gessner Drive.
    ° Through mid-2020
  • Northbound US 183 frontage road closed nightly from Clock Tower Drive to I-35.
    ° Sunday, March 1 through Thursday, March 5 from 9 PM until 5 AM
  • Northbound I-35 right lane closed nightly from US 183 to Rundberg Lane. The Rundberg Lane exit ramp (#241) will also be closed.
    ° Sunday, March 1 through Thursday, March 5 from 9 PM until 5 AM
  • Southbound I-35 frontage road left lane closed nightly from US 183 exit ramp (#240) to Wonsley Drive. The US 183 exit ramp (#240) and the Rundberg Lane entrance ramp will also be closed.
    ° Sunday, March 1 through Thursday, March 5 from 9 PM until 5 AM
  • South to north I-35 U-turn closed.
    ° Monday, March 2 through Friday, March 6 from 9 AM until 3 PM
    ° Sunday, March 1 through Thursday, March 5 from 9 PM until 5 AM
  • Northbound and southbound US 183 left lane closed nightly at I-35.
    ° Sunday, March 1 through Thursday, March 5 from 9 PM until 5 AM
  • Northbound I-35 frontage road left lane closed daily at St. Johns Avenue.
    ° Monday, March 2 through Friday, March 6 from 9 AM until 3 PM
  • Southbound I-35 frontage road right lane closed from Blackson Avenue to Huntland Drive.
    ° Monday, March 2 through Friday, March 6 from 9 AM until 3 PM
    ° Monday, March 2 through Thursday, March 5 from 9 PM until 5 AM
  • Southbound I-35 US 290 E exit ramp (#238B) closed.
    ° Tuesday, March 3 from 9 PM until 5 AM
  • Southbound US 183 frontage road closed from I-35 to Carver Avenue.
    ° Thursday, March 5 from 9 PM until 5 AM

I-35 FROM 1431 TO FM 3406 (NORTHBOUND)

PROJECT OVERVIEW | The intersection of FM 3406 and the I-35 frontage roads are being improved, and the FM 3406 bridge over I-35 is being reconstructed.

The FM 3406 (Old Settlers Blvd) bridge will close to eastbound traffic. Westbound traffic will detour to the newly constructed U-turn Bridge.

I-35 FROM US-79 TO SH-45 NORTH

PROJECT ACTIVITY | New braided ramps (where one ramp crosses over the other) are being constructed along the northbound I-35 main lanes between Hesters Crossing and RM 620 to eliminate merging conflicts.

I-35 AT PARMER LANE

PROJECT OVERVIEW | Reduced congestion, improved mobility at Parmer Lane and Lamar Boulevard, operational efficiency, more reliable travel times, lower fuel consumption.

The start date is summer 2019 and is scheduled to be completed summer of 2021. The construction costs are estimated to be $24.6 million.
