Travis Elementary Students Bring Home Regional Honors

Saturday, February 21, 2015—a beautiful day filled with a warm breezes, sunshine, and bird chirps—was the perfect day for the Austin Energy Regional Science Fair.  For the fifth year in a row, fourteen projects moved on from the Travis Elementary Science Fair to compete in the annual regional science fair.

The Austin Energy Regional Science Festival is one of Texas’ largest regional science fairs with almost 3,000 students from 3rd through 12th grade. It encourages and rewards innovative student research and provides scientists, engineers and other professionals a chance to volunteer in the community.

The Travis students had the opportunity to share their work with others and were interviewed as part of the competition.

In the third grade division, Rowan Cockrell, Bailey Guzman, and Serena Sutherlun placed 2nd. In the fourth grade division, Adylyn Jeffers, Jazalyn Rodrigues, and the team of Amaia Salazar and Janelle Salinas all placed 2nd.

In the fifth grade division, Aiden Ballard and Robert Blakeley both placed 3rd. Caleb Costello and Jack Shaver both placed 2nd. Jon Michael Brown, Oliver Rettele, Logan Rounds, and Vinson Zheng all took place 1st honors with their projects.  Congratulations to all of the students at Travis Elementary for sharing their interest and passion for science.
