Two teenagers killed in Martindale shooting identified

On Monday, May 10, at approximately 9:04 p.m. the Caldwell County Sheriff’s office responded to a report of gunfire near Northwest River Road and Scull Road in Martindale.

According to the officials, one victim was pronounced dead at the scene, and the second victim was transported to Ascension Seton Hays in Kyle, where he was later pronounced dead.

The two teenage victims killed in the shooting have been identified as Adian Zulaica, 17, and James Melgar, 18. 

The suspects involved in the deadly shooting have been identified as Michael Morris, 29, and Olivia Oliva, 29. Both have been charged with capital murder and are being held with no bond.

In a gofundme, the family expresses shock and grief of losing their son, James, by close family friends. The gofundme has been organized to help pay for funeral arrangements.

“On Monday, May 10 2021, our sweet James was murdered by 2 people he called family at the very young age of 18,” was written in the gofundme. “These 2 people we in his life for 18 years from the time he was a baby, they watched him grow up. They set him and his best friend (Adian) up. Brutally shot them and left them on the ground alone to suffer and die.”

A motive for the murders has not been released, and the investigation by the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office is ongoing.
