Two Texas State Soccer Bobcats Take Home Weekly SBC Soccer Awards

These players are the first Bobcat duo to earn weekly honors in the same week since October 2009.

New Orleans – Texas State soccer players Kassi Hormuth and Heather Martin saw their performances from Sunday’s 3-0 victory be recognized as they were named the Sun Belt Conference’s Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively.

They are the first Bobcat duo to earn weekly honors in the same week since October 2009.

Hormuth scored the match-winner against the Ragin’ Cajuns early in the 26th minute that deflected off the right post and in for her fourth goal of the year. It was her second match-winner this season, both coming in conference play.

The Cedar Park, Texas native was also credited with her fourth assist this year when she helped set up TXST’s third and final goal of the contest with a through ball to Jordan Kondikoff down the left side of the 18-yard box for her immediate cross into the box to Rachel Grout for the score.

The assist was Hormuth’s 36 career point and tied her for 10 place in program history with Tori Hale (2012-14).

Heading into this weekend’s matches, the senior has tallied a point in four consecutive matches. She has two goals and three assists during the stretch.

It was the second time in her career that Hormuth has won the offensive weekly honor from the Sun Belt. The first for her came after the first weekend of conference play in 2016.

Martin recorded her fourth consecutive shutout between the posts. The sophomore stopped all three shots that the Ragin’ Cajuns placed on goal. She ended the weekend ranked first in Sun Belt only matches in GAA (0.33), save percentage (.917) and shutouts (4).

The weekly honor was the second in three weeks for the Midlothian, Texas native. Martin heads into the Bobcats’ final road matches with a 0.75 GAA, 32 saves and a .842 save percentage on the season. She is seven saves shy of becoming the seventh goalkeeper to record 100 saves in a TXST uniform.

On Friday, the Bobcats are back in action when they travel to face ULM at 4 p.m.
