The Texas Department of Transportation is gearing up for potential icing on area roadways this week. TxDOT crews will pretreat Austin highways beginning at 9 a.m. today, Dec. 31, in advance of potential freezing rain and temperatures.
Crews will start pretreating activities on I-35 and other major highways in the region. Pretreating roads in advance of a storm discourages ice from sticking to the pavement. Work teams and trucks will then be placed on standby, to respond to ice situations, as the need arises.
The Austin District is working closely with the National Weather Service to monitor weather conditions for any potential winter weather.
