TxDOT, Hays County Break Ground On Posey Road Project

SAN MARCOS — Construction is underway on the $31.8 million I-35 at Posey Road project in Hays County. The Texas Department of Transportation was joined at the ceremonial groundbreaking by officials from U.S. Representative Chip Roy’s office, Hays County and the city of San Marcos.

“I-35 is the backbone of our local, regional and national transportation network,” said TxDOT District Engineer Terry McCoy. “The I-35 at Posey Road project will bring much needed relief for drivers in Hays County.”

The project will reconstruct and reconfigure the I-35 at Posey Road interchange for safety and mobility. Currently, I-35 goes under Posey Road, but after the project is complete, I-35 mainlanes will go over Posey Road.

The project will also increase connectivity across I-35 by providing additional travel lanes through the frontage road intersections, adding U-turn lanes in each direction, reconfiguring ramps and converting frontage roads to one-way.

Bicycle and pedestrian sidewalks and paths will also be added as part of the project.

This project is part of the Hays County-TxDOT Partnership Program, which matches local dollars with federal funds for highway improvements.

“It’s been a long time coming and we really appreciate the partnership with TxDOT,” said Hays County Commissioner Debbie Gonzales Ingalsbe, who was instrumental in fostering the partnership.  “This is the last overpass on I-35 in Hays County that needs to be improved so this is great news for us.”
