The I-35 at FM 3406 project will improve mobility, safety, and connectivity for all modes of transportation along and across I-35.

The Texas Department of Transportation will close I-35 at FM 3406 (Old Settlers Boulevard) in alternating directions on Sunday and Monday nights, while crews and cranes lift and place large beams for a new southbound to northbound U-turn bridge, currently under construction. The FM 3406 bridge across I-35 will also close while the work is being completed.

The I-35 mainlanes will be closed and traffic detoured to the frontage roads at exit 254 (Old Settlers Boulevard) beginning at 9 p.m., with full mainlane closures from 11 p.m. until 5 a.m., on both Sunday night, August 6 and Monday night, August 7, weather permitting. The closure will affect southbound motorists on Sunday night and northbound motorists on Monday night.

In addition, both directions of FM 3406 over I-35 will close beginning at 8 p.m. on Sunday and Monday nights. (See illustration.)The I-35 mainlanes and FM 3406 will reopen daily as work is completed.

Drivers wishing to cross I-35 at FM 3406 during the closure will be detoured to RM 1431 or US 79.

Road signs have been placed to alert drivers of the closure. Drivers are encouraged to seek alternate routes, as delays are expected. TxDOT asks the traveling public to be patient and remain aware when traveling through the work zone.

The I-35 at FM 3406 project will improve mobility, safety, and connectivity for all modes of transportation along and across I-35.

Work includes replacing and widening the FM 3406 bridge and constructing two new U-turn bridges. Bicycle and pedestrian enhancements will also be made within the project limits. Work on the $12.4 million project is expected to continue through spring 2019, weather permitting. The contractor is Flatiron Constructors Inc.
