TxDOT To Host Listening Session For Public Transit Needs For City Seniors, Disabled Access

SAN MARCOS – The Texas Department of Transportation is looking to improve mobility for seniors and individuals with disabilities, and hosting a listening session to collect information on public transit needs.

The meeting will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17 at the San Marcos Public Library, 625 E. Hopkins Street, San Marcos, TX 78666. Citizens can also join in a WebEx online conference call.

The purpose of the meeting is to gather information from local stakeholders regarding public transit use and requirements of seniors and individuals with disabilities in this area. Information will be provided as to the local application process.

The meeting is one of a series being hosted in rural communities throughout the state.

Public transportation provides mobility options, reduces traffic congestion, conserves fuel, improves air quality, reduces greenhouse gas emissions and supports emergency preparedness in the areas it serves.

TxDOT promotes and supports public transportation by collaborating with local governments, nonprofit entities and other transportation providers.

TxDOT provides funding to assist the needs of seniors and persons with disabilities when current transportation service is unavailable, insufficient or inappropriate.

The federal Enhanced Mobility for Seniors and Individuals with Disabilities program provides funds for public transportation services aiding seniors and individuals with disabilities. The public is invited to provide input regarding local needs.

Persons with a disability and require assistance, special arrangements can be made to accommodate most needs. Please be aware that advance notice is requested as some accommodations may require time for TxDOT to arrange.
