TxState Students Named SBC Runners of the Week

NEW ORLEANS – Following their strong performances at the UIW Invitational over the weekend, junior Nikki Sanchez and sophomore Joseph Meade of the Texas State cross country teams were named the Sun Belt Conference’s Runners of the Week.

Meade helped lead the men’s team to a second-place finish Saturday morning. He placed second with a career-best time of 24:07 on the 8K course. The Round Rock, Texas native shed 40 seconds off his previous personal best. It is the first time he has earned the weekly conference award.

Sanchez placed 13 in the women’s 6K race with a time of 22:48. Her performance helped the women place fourth overall. This is the second SBC Runner of the Week award in the San Marcos, Texas native’s career.

Texas State returns to action at the Sun Belt Conference Championships on Saturday, October 29. The races are being held on the campus of Troy University in Dothan, Alabama.
