SAN MARCOS – Through its “UFCU Score for Scholarships” initiative and with the help of the Bobcats on the field and court, UFCU has made a $100,000 contribution in scholarships to Texas State University students.
As part of the initiative, UFCU pledged scholarship funds for every touchdown scored in football, three-pointer in men’s and women’s basketball, ace served in volleyball, and home run in baseball and softball by Texas State during the 2021-22 academic year. The baseball team has already set a program record for home runs in a single season to help further the impact of UFCU’s pledge.
“This year has featured a number of incredible performances by the Bobcats, and now UFCU has stepped up with an incredible donation in the support of scholarships to reflect that hard work,” said Texas State Director of Athletics Don Coryell. “We are grateful for UFCU and their investment in the lives of Texas State University students. This partnership gave us something even more to cheer for throughout the year, and now we cannot wait to see its impact in years to come.”
Chartered in 1936, UFCU has grown into a strong, healthy, and growing financial cooperative, serving members, universities, associations, and employers in Central Texas and Galveston County. Education is one of UFCU’s investments that help form a foundation for the financial health of its Members.
“We are proud to have supported our higher education community and all Texas State students through the ‘Score for Scholarships’ program this year,” said UFCU CEO Tony Budet. “Supporting education is at the very core of our mission, and it is work that we believe is fundamental to a strong, vibrant community. UFCU looks forward to continuing to cheer on the Bobcats! We’re eager to support Texas State students in every endeavor on the field and in the classroom.”
UFCU presented a “UFCU Score for Scholarships” check to Texas State Athletics prior to the start of the Bobcats’ baseball game against Louisiana on May 14 at Bobcat Stadium.
Texas State Sports Properties, the locally-based LEARFIELD team representing the Bobcats as their multimedia rightsholder, and UFCU collaborated to create the initiative and established one of the largest corporate partnerships for the Texas State Athletics.
