TODAY AND TONIGHT
Isolated showers and thunderstorms will be possible this afternoon across much of South Central Texas. These storms will be capable of producing locally heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and frequent cloud to ground lightning. Minor flooding may be possible.
FRIDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY
Tropical Storm Harvey is expected to move to the northwest and approach the Texas coast Friday. The tropical system will bring tropical storm winds and significant, life-threatening heavy rainfall across South Central Texas beginning Friday afternoon and continuing into the weekend.
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Atascosa, Bastrop, Bexar, Caldwell, Fayette, Gonzales, Guadalupe, Lavaca, and Wilson.
Also, a Hurricane Warning is in effect for DeWitt and Karnes counties.
In addition, a Flash Flood Watch is in effect from Friday afternoon through Sunday morning across the southeastern counties.
As of now, the average rainfall amounts of 8 to 15 inches near and east of I-35, with isolated higher in excess of 20 inches near and south of I-10, are expected. This includes the city of San Antonio.
40 to 50 mph winds are expected within the area now under a Tropical Storm Warning with gusts to 60 mph. Damage to trees, power lines and some minor roof damage is possible.
There is a low risk of brief tornadoes east of Interstate 35 Friday evening into the weekend associated with tropical rain bands.
