A fire and subsequent fire suppression efforts caused significant damage to a limited portion of the Amazon Fulfillment Center in San Marcos Monday afternoon. There were no injuries, and the building was evacuated successfully.
The San Marcos Fire Department received the call at 12:37 p.m. Monday, June 18 with first units arriving at 12:43 p.m.
Firefighters contained the fire to the third floor of the building and had it extinguished at 2:15 p.m. Fire units will remain on scene until the building is clear of smoke and investigators from the Fire Marshal’s Office can begin their investigation and damage assessment.
“Amazon management and personnel did an outstanding job quickly evacuating the building and providing 100 percent accountability of their employees on duty at the time,” said Fire Chief Les Stephens.
San Marcos Police were on site to provide access control and security during the incident. South Hays Fire Department, Kyle, Buda, and New Braunfels provided mutual aid at the scene. Buda’s fire department also provided a unit to respond to calls elsewhere in the City while San Marcos fire apparatus and crews worked the incident at Amazon.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
