Update: SH 21 Accident Kills Two, Injures Four

Six people were involved in accident on SH 21 that closed the highway for several hours last night. 

Update:

A 33-year-old man kills himself and another driver after driving northbound on State Highway 21 in the southbound lane.

The Texas Department of Public Safety said Jose Ortiz-Perez of Buda was driving the wrong way in a Nissan Frontier when he struck Olivia Madoroles Flores’s, 45, Ford Explorer head-on.

Ortiz-Perez and Flores were both declared dead at the scene of the accident. Two adult passengers from the Frontier were taken to the hospital. Both patients have been treated and released.

Two passengers, who were in Flores’s Explorer, have also been taken to the hospital. One of the passengers was a 2-year-old girl, who is in serious condition.

Two drivers were killed in a crash Monday evening on State Highway 21 in Hays County.

Around 7 pm, two vehicles collided near the Hays/Caldwell County line. The crash caused the highway to be shut down until it reopened at 11 pm.

Department of Public Safety officials are investigating the deaths of the drivers of two vehicles after they collided south of Farm to Market 2001.

Four others were involved in the accident; a child was taken to Dell Children’s Hospital while three other people were rushed to South Austin Medical Center. The conditions of the child and three adults are unknown.

County Officials said they are working with the Department of Public Transportation to improve safety along SH 21 after a Kyle teen was killed by a hit and run driver on Dec. 26.

Several solutions have been suggested, such as widening the shoulders of the road, adding street lights and lowering the speed.
