UPDATE: Texas State University Police Identify Body Found In River

Texas State University Police are investigating after the body of 29-year-old Austin resident David Curtis McKnight (3/20/1985) was found around 8:10 a.m. in the San Marcos River.

McKnight’s friends reported him missing around midnight after a night of swimming in the river. University Police dive teams searched for him overnight but were unable to locate him.

A swimmer discovered McKnight’s body tangled in Texas wild rice this morning and alerted police. San Marcos Fire Department and San Marcos Park Rangers assisted. An autopsy is pending. Texas State Police Department is the lead agency on the investigation.

Access to the river in Sewell Park from Aquarena Springs Drive to the pedestrian bridge was closed to the public until 11 a.m.
