UPDATE: Veterans Day Parade

The Veterans Day parade scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 7 has been canceled because of the loss of equipment in last weekend’s flood and lack of availability of police and community services staffing due to flood recovery efforts.

“We will move forward and create an event that reflects our gratitude and celebrates our beloved Veterans,” said Lisa Morris, Recreation Programs Manager. “We appreciate the hard work and heroism demonstrated by our police officers, park rangers, firefighters, medics and Parks and Recreation staff during the flood. They continue to work long hours in the aftermath of this disaster when, under happier circumstances, they would be making preparations for our Veterans Day parade.”

A free biscuit and gravy breakfast sponsored by Café on the Square and doughnuts sponsored by Krispy Kreme will be served at the San Marcos Activity Center, 501 E. Hopkins, from 8:30 – 10 a.m. The City will still honor the Grand Marshals, World War II-era veteran Frank Auten and Vietnam veteran Guadalupe Flores. Various local dignitaries will be speaking and entertainment will be provided by A Capella Unlimited and Head to Toe Dance.

The Kiwanis Club will sponsor an indoor pinwheel parade for elementary school aged youth in the Activity Center. Pinwheel making will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. and the pinwheel parade will begin at 9:30 a.m. Elementary school aged youth that participate in the pinwheel parade will be entered into a drawing with the Kiwanis Club for a chance to win free bikes.
