On December 12, the Partnership for Public Service’s ranked VA 6th among the 17 largest federal government organizations in 2018 in the organization’s annual ‘Best Places to Work’ tabulation.
In 2017, VA was ranked 17 out of the 18 organizations listed that year.
VA did not participate in the 2018 Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey and instead administered its own internal survey.
Since the VA’s survey included the three questions needed to calculate an agency’s Best Places to Work employee engagement score, the department was included in the Best Places rankings.
However, because the surveys the VA administered in 2017 and 2018 are different, the organization did not report a point change for the department from the previous year.
This will change next year, when VA’s data from this year’s survey will be comparable to the 2019 information VA will submit.
“It is clear that we’ve made progress throughout VA in this important area,” said VA Secretary Robert Wilkie. “Employees who have a better work experience understandably deliver better service to our Veterans. Our ranking this year represents a significant milestone as we continue making VA a strong and supportive work environment.”
“The best organizations understand that increased employee engagement leads to better performance and outcomes. The VA is a leader in demonstrating how high employee engagement correlates to better service for our nation’s veterans,” said Max Stier, president and CEO of the Partnership for Public Service. “I applaud Secretary Wilkie and his team for their focus on creating a more positive work environment that enables VA employees to perform their best.”
The Best Places to Work rankings are presented annually by the nonprofit, nonpartisan Partnership for Public Service.
