Volleyball announces its 2022 schedule

Staff Reports

SAN MARCOS, TX — Following yet another successful chapter in the program’s storied history throughout 2021, third-year Texas State volleyball head coach Sean Huiet announced the Bobcats’ schedule for the upcoming season Wednesday afternoon.

“Everyone is really excited for this upcoming season,” said Huiet. “The program had a great spring and, with the addition of our 2022 signing class, we have a group that will be ready to compete for a Sun Belt championship.

“Our non-conference portion is going to be challenge and will test us right away. We will compete against multiple programs that participated in last season’s NCAA Tournament. And the trip to Hawaii is going to be an amazing experience with matches against really high-level volleyball programs. We expect the Sun Belt to be very good this fall, too, so every match, we will have to be ready to battle and earn everything.”

The 2022 Division I volleyball season will provide the Texas State program an opportunity to compete in its sixth consecutive Sun Belt postseason tournament championship match. The Bobcats previously won three straight championship matches (2018-20) and played in a fourth and fifth in 2017 and during the fall portion of the 2021 season, respectively.

Texas State, which faced both the 2020 NCAA Volleyball National Champions — Kentucky — and national runner-up — Texas — last season, will have the luxury returning 11 student-athletes who appeared in multiple matches last season, including the Sun Belt’s reigning Player of the Year and four-time Sun Belt Setter of the Year Emily DeWalt as well as the conference’s reigning Offensive Player of the Year in Janell Fitzgerald.

2022 will also provide Texas State, which has won double digit conference matches every season since joining the Sun Belt prior to the 2013 campaign, its first look a conference newcomers James Madison and Southern Miss as the Dukes and Golden Eagles travel to Texas for the Bobcats’ first two home conference series.
