The Texas State Bobcats improved to 5-4 on the 2014 season after defeating Prairie View A&M tonight (Spetember 9) in Strahan Coliseum, three sets to one.

The Bobcats took the first set 25-19. The match was neck and neck until Texas State called a time out, trailing 18-17. They then proceeded to go on a 8-1 scoring run to finish off the set.

Prairie View A&M jumped out early on the second set and the Bobcats found themselves trying to work their way back into the set. The Panthers had set point at 24-20, but the Bobcats came back to tie up the set before Prairie View A&M eventually took the set 27-25.

After intermission the Panthers came out with energy and took an early lead in the third set, but then the Bobcats hit their stride midway through the set and exploded with offense to break the tie match with a 25-17 victory.

In the fourth set, the Prairie View A&M Panthers battled hard to keep the match going. In the set the teams were tied 13 times and exchanged leads 6 time before the Bobcats finished the match with a 25-21 set win.

“They’re a good SWAC team,” Bobcat Coach Karen Chisum said of the Panthers after the game, “They’re not a big team, but they just keep the ball in play and let you make the errors and that’s exactly what they did.”

Next up, the Bobcats travel to Lubbock for a tournament hosted by Texas Tech. Texas State will play Incarnate Word at 10AM Friday morning and Texas Tech at 6PM Friday evening, then they’ll wrap up the tournament Saturday with a 10AM first serve against Gardner-Webb.
