One of the nation’s largest Latino civic groups VotoLatino partners with Downtown Businesses to host the first Downtown Election Cook-out. Join the community for a fun day of music, free food, prizes, and most importantly an opportunity to speak to local candidates directly. Everyone is welcome to come enjoy the fun, then ride over to early voting together in CARTS who is offering free rides to the polls. People are also encouraged to carpool to the event.
VotoLatino is responsible for registering 20,483 new Texas voters and over 175,000 nationally. VotoLatino is a pioneering civic media organization that seeks to transform America by recognizing Latinos’ innate leadership. Through innovative digital campaigns, pop culture, and grassroots voices, they provide culturally relevant programs that engage, educate and empower Latinos to be agents of change. Together, they aim to build a stronger and more inclusive democracy.
Kiva Lounge and Bar will open their doors early to welcome the community and candidates to enjoy a festive American cook-out, where students, residents, downtown business owners and everyone in between can be in the same space, learn more about each other and get out to vote. There will be event tee-shirts for sale with proceeds benefiting the Hays-Caldwell Women’s Center and the local San Marcos, Texas Radio KZSM.
If you haven’t voted yet or want to learn more about the important topics the candidates have to share, this is a great opportunity to have fun, celebrate democracy and vote!
