Staff Report
Last week Kyle started the long-awaited reconstruction of Lehman Road. Kyle residents should be prepared for detours during the roadwork.
Please remember to support your local businesses as they are still open during construction.
Underground utilities will kickoff this reconstruction project, with an estimated project wrap up the timeline of 24 months and the closed portion of FM 150 to Masonwood to last several months.
However, inclement weather and other issues can affect the anticipated schedule throughout the entire project.
Motorists should be prepared for detours and closures during the construction period. The contractor is required to display signage in advance of traffic changes, lane shifts, detours and closures.

• Burleson St.: Began Construction September 2018 (approximately 24-month project) —
On Aug. 15, the portion of Burleson St. between Lockhart and St. Anthony’s reopened in what we’re calling a ‘soft open’. There’s still work to be done and the sidewalks and other elements aren’t quite ready, but the barricades were removed so you can drive on that section of road.
**Important: the roadway is not safe for walkers; as soon as it is we will notify the public.**
In related news, work will continue moving north. Soon you’ll see signs alerting drivers to a new detour pattern. It will say something along these lines:
“New Traffic Detour
Starting 8/20/19 Bellair Dr”
This means the detour will move from Star of Texas to Bellair.
The utility crew will continue to close small areas, block by block, as they work north toward the railroad tracks.
The road crew will be at St. Anthony’s Church digging for about 2 months, with work anticipated to be completed by the time of the Church Festival.
Some minor disruptions to traffic in the coming weeks may be needed as we still have some pending work (illumination, landscaping). We will use social media to communicate any issue/temporary closures if needed.
This is a planned major reconstruction of the road and part of the 2013 road bond approved by Kyle voters. The work involves moving utilities and adding turn lanes. The overall project, which began Sept. 10, 2018, is anticipated to last about 24 months.
**Note: as work moves north toward Marketplace, the contractor will set new detours. We will work to keep everyone updated.**
• Lehman Rd.: Began Construction February 2019 (approximately 24-month project) —
The Lehman Rd. closure now extends from FM 150 to just south of Hiver St. Remember, you can still easily get to the businesses at Lehman & FM 150 by entering from the 150 side of the plaza.
The contractor is focusing on the section from Masonwood to Primrose.
As the work progresses, the city will provide an update of new closures and section openings.
*Weather and other issues can impact or delay the start date for new closures, and for any work on the overall project.
Also, the contractor is working in front of the Public Works facility on FM 150.
The contractor continues to work on the City’s utility work between Lake Kyle and Public Works. The Lake Kyle excavation is complete and the contractor continues construction on the low water structure.
IMPORTANT NOTE: As of Aug. 2, the city and contractor are in agreement that the Pie in the Sky Festival over Labor Day weekend will take place at Lake Kyle as expected.
Access to the park will be for shuttle buses, event staff, vendors and musicians only. All festival attendees will be able to park at satellite lots and ride the free shuttles.
IMPORTANT NOTE: As of June 28, the city and contractor are in agreement that the Pie in the Sky Festival over Labor Day weekend will take place at Lake Kyle as expected.
Also, the contractor is working in front of the Public Works facility on FM 150. The work involves lowering the stormwater grate, moving to place the water barriers, and excavating. The staff at PAWS has been notified as some of the work and closures may affect their parking lot and access.
• Kyle Crossing Project.:
Work continues on Kyle Crossing. This project began on 6/17/2019. The work will be done in several phases.
Currently, the road is closed for southbound traffic (on the section behind EVO) but it will remain open for northbound one-way traffic between Kohler’s crossing and I-35 (Note this is a change from the original plan).
This project is expected to last approximately 180 calendar days, though weather and other issues may delay that schedule. (See map attached to the bottom of this page.)
Please remember to support your local businesses as they are still open during construction.
