“Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens. Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mitten. Brown paper packages tied up with strings. These are a few of my favorite things…”
Canyon Lake, TX – Water Services, Inc., a utility that serves central Texas and is owned by SouthWest Water Company, is collaborating with Make-A-Wish® Central & South Texas to grant the wish of 7-year-old Bryton from Canyon Lake, Texas.
Bryton suffers from mitochondrial disease, a chronic illness that causes debilitating physical, developmental and cognitive disabilities.
On Thursday, Sept. 28, Make-A-Wish® and Water Services, Inc. hosted a surprise wish party at Logan’s Roadhouse in Buda for Bryton at which he and his family received a trip to Alaska.
Bryton has a special love for Alaska, and in addition to the company’s sponsorship of Bryton’s wish, Water Services, Inc. presented Bryton with dinosaur, wolf and Alaska-themed gifts at the party–just a few of Bryton’s favorite things.
“There is nothing more rewarding than connecting with members of the communities we serve and making a difference for families in need,” Gary Rose, director of operations, Texas Utilities, SouthWest Water Company, said. “This marks SouthWest Water’s ninth wish with Make-A-Wish, and we are thrilled to continue to make children’s wishes become a reality.”
“Without the support of community partners like SouthWest Water Company, gifts such as Bryton’s trip to Alaska would not be possible,” Kathrin Brewer, president & CEO of Make-A-Wish Central & South Texas, said. “We are incredibly grateful for their ongoing support.”
SouthWest Water Company provides a broad range of operations, maintenance and management services, including water production, treatment and distribution; wastewater collection and treatment; customer service; and utility infrastructure construction management. The company owns regulated water and wastewater utilities and also serves cities and private companies under contract. Make-A-Wish® grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. According to a 2011 U.S. study of wish impact, most health professionals surveyed believe a wish-come-true can have positive impacts on the health of children. Kids say wishes give them renewed strength to fight their illness, and their parents say these experiences help strengthen the entire family. With the help of generous donors and more than 250 volunteers, Make-A-Wish Central & South Texas has granted more than 4400 wishes to children in 40 counties since 1985. During the last year, volunteers and donors made it possible for 283 kids to experience the magic of a wish. For more information about Make-A-Wish, visit www.cstx.wish.org.
