Wimberley ISD Students And Faculty Commemorate Veterans Day
The principle speaker, John Thompson, the local 6441 VFW Commander said, “We all need to be aware of the sacrifices of our Veterans, some of them with permanent scars, both emotional and physical.”
Wimberley ISD students, teachers and administrators hosted United States Veterans, November 9, at the Wimberley High School gymnasium to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I and Veterans Days.
The annual tradition included the presentation of state colors by the Hays County Sheriff’s Department Color Guard, the raising of the flag by the Boy Scouts Troop 127, the pledge of allegiance by the Danforth Junior High National Junior Honor Society, the “National Anthem” sung in unison by the Danforth Junior High and Wimberley High School choirs and a beautiful rendition of “America the Beautiful” by Jacob’s Well Elementary students.
The WHS Texan Band serenaded guests throughout the event, including a performance of the “Armed Forces Medley” and concluding the ceremony with a trumpeter playing taps.

It is important that we honor them and continue to support and recognize them on Veterans Day and every day.”
Superintendent of Schools, Dwain York, welcomed everyone and served as the master of ceremonies.
“We are honored to have our Veterans here with us today,” York said. “Our students and all of us are inspired by your service and sacrifice. You are examples of honor, heroism and patriotism.”
The ceremony was a community event with Gary Cutler, Hays County Sheriff, in attendance; Andy Cable, Hays County Justice of the Peace; Ray Helm, Hays County Constable Precinct 3, Lon Shell, Hays County Commissioner; and members of the Wimberley ISD Board of Trustees.
