Wimberley Senior Center organizes Public Art Mural

WIMBERLEY — What should you do if you have a big silo tank on your community grounds? Paint a Wimberley-themed mural on it, of course! But first, at least $1,000 needs to be made by Monday, May 9.

The artistic idea was inspired by Alexis Pointe’s senior residents a few months ago. Community Relations Director, Katy Starr, has since then been working with players in the Wimberley community to coordinate a mural.  

The important players who are helping provide a beautiful, local, and creative view for the Alexis Pointe residents, and to the people of Wimberley overall, are The Wimberley Valley Arts and Cultural Alliance (WVACA), ACE Hardware, and the City of Wimberley. 

The mural will be painted on the silo in front of Alexis Pointe, which is 110 ft. in circumference and 6.5 feet tall, located on 14100 Ranch Rd 12 Ste 1, Wimberley, TX 78676.

Donators can also send a check to WVACA at this address: PO Box 608, Wimberley TX 78676. Checks can be made out to “Wimberley Valley Arts & Cultural Alliance” and state the reason as ‘Alexis Pointe Mural’. 

“Our fundraising goal is $5000 to cover supplies, the chosen artist’s reward, and a walking pathway to be put in around the silo,” informs Katy. “However, we need to raise $1000 by May 9th, which is our projected goal to announce the call for artists. Please support our seniors and artists to get this special project off the ground!”

Artists should consider the local theme of the wall alongside the ideas of the Alexis Pointe residents:

• Texas wildflowers

• Sunset or sunrise

• Wide open Texas sky with puffy clouds

• Lavender / verbena 

• Birds / “white wing dove” 

• Fox

• Longhorn

• River / pond

• Landscape

• Windmill

• Deer

• Little trail that goes throughout the scene

“The goal of this project is to provide a beautiful, public art piece that will be enjoyed as the new view for Alexis Pointe senior residents,” adds Katy. “This mural will become an iconic public art piece that the greater Wimberley community and visitors can enjoy for years to come.”
