Wimberley’s Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6441 will host a fireworks display for the community on July 4.
The show will be at the VFW grounds, 401 Jacobs Well Road with gates opening at 8 PM and the fireworks starting at 9. Admission is free.
“The VFW is proud to present this event as a gift to the community on Independence Day and to thank everyone for their continued support,” said former commander John Thompson. “We want to make this a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.”
Attendees are asked to watch from inside their vehicles or they can bring lawn chairs to set up nearby. Physical distancing will be enforced.
There will be no roaming the grounds or socializing, and food and refreshments will not be available on the grounds, but attendees can bring their own.
Wimberley Valley Radio will broadcast patriotic music to accompany the fireworks.
The VFW thanks the Wimberley Fire Department, the Precinct 3 Constable’s Office, Leinweber Plumbing, and the Wimberley Youth Sports Association for their help in bringing this celebration to the community.

VFW membership is drying up. Fewer people are serving and technology has created another avenue for vets to feel connected. And still the Wimberly VFW has found a way (through sponsorship, donations, or whatever) to afford the cost of a fireworks display.
Yet, San Marcos has a population 20-40x that or Wimberly used cost as the reason for cancelling its 4th of July Celebration... HMMMM! --- Combine that action with the fact that they "reopened" playgrounds but over 3-weeks never managed to find time to remove the barriers or put up any of the basketball hoops. (It takes ~20 minutes/playset.) Hell, but somehow the City found the time to put the barriers BACK UP. (With all those zip-ties, its gotta be longer.) They actively worked to ensure our children could not use an OPEN PARK.
YA, CITY COUNCIL HATES KIDS. THEY HATE FAMILIES. THEY CLOSE EVERYTHING EVERY HOLIDAY. THIS WAS ALL PLANNED FROM DAY ONE. IT WAS NEVER THEIR INTENTION TO REOPEN THESE ACTIVITIES.
Good on Wimberly. Shame on San Marcos City Council.
