‘Word Of Life’ Dedicated To Ending Hunger In Hays County

Kyle, TX – August 11, 2015

Last summer, the Hays County Food Bank was in need of another distribution site in Kyle, Texas. With 50% of the students in the Hays Consolidated School District qualifying for free or reduced lunches, they knew there was a need in the area. The Word of Life Church stepped up and answered the call. For 14 months they provided the Food Bank a place to distribute meats, fresh produce, breads, and nonperishable food items to the food insecure in Hays County.

Pastor James Jacobs

The Hays County Food Bank, on behalf of all the individuals and families they helped, wants to thank Pastor James Jacobs and the whole congregation of the church for being such wonderful advocates for the hungry. Word of Life held one distribution every Wednesday, where people who needed help with food could go and get it. On average, Word of Life saw 55 households, or 255 individuals each distribution. In 14 months, 770 households, or over 3,500 individuals were served.

The Hays County Food Bank would also like to send out a special thank you to Sharon King and all the volunteers who helped make last Wednesday night’s distribution happen. This organization relies on wonderful volunteers to help feed the hungry in Hays County, and they really wouldn’t be able to fulfill their mission without them.

The new site for Wednesday night distribution in Kyle is at the Immanuel Baptist Church, located at 4000 E. FM 150. Distribution is at 6:00 pm. Those who are in need of food should arrive 45 minutes prior to distribution start. Please bring your photo identifications, proof of address, and your barcode card. If you are a first timer, this barcode card will be issued at your first distribution. Nobody will be admitted 10 minutes after distribution has started, and you must bring in your own bags or boxes for food. Please check our website at www.haysfoodbank.org for a complete distribution schedule.

Turkey box sign-ups for the Food Bank’s clients who come to distributions will start the week of September 1st at each distribution site and continue through September 30th. You must sign up for one of these boxes in order to receive one the week before Thanksgiving when they are handed out.
