Written Gun Threat Found At Lehman High School

A written gun threat was discovered at Lehman High School late this afternoon. Below is a copy of a letter that Hays CISD sent to parents yesterday via email and phone calls. The letter explains how Lehman and Hays CISD plan on controlling this threat on Monday morning, April 20, 2015.

Dear Lobo Parents,
Today, we discovered a threat against our school written on a bathroom wall. Specifically, the threat involves bringing a gun to school on Monday. Each threat is different, as is our response. Our plan of action in response to a threat is based on the type of threat, what it contains, and some other factors. I want you to know that when we have threat, the safety of our Lobo family – your children and our students – always comes first.
On Monday morning, additional law enforcement officials will be present on campus. When we open our doors at 8:00 a.m., we will have controlled and limited entry-points to the building. School administrators and staff will be monitoring students entering the building and visually scanning backpacks, purses and other bags. We know this will be a small inconvenience, but we believe it is needed for the protection of our students and staff, and to make sure everyone feels safe.
In addition to our safety response, law enforcement will continue their investigation into who made the threat. We have confidence the person will be identified and prosecuted as necessary.
I know this type of unwanted disruption is frustrating and upsetting for you and your children. It’s equally frustrating to us as employees and educators. Thank you for your understanding and your continued support of Lehman High School.
Sincerely,
Michelle Chae

Queridos padres, Lobo
Atentamente,
Michelle Chae, Directora
