County Completes Low-Water Crossing Road Bond Project
Hays County Courthouse, San Marcos, TX – Hays County completed another project that is part of the 2016 voter-approved road bond.
Along with contractor Smith Construction, the county completed the $1.15 million reconstruction of the second low-water crossing in the Chaparral Park subdivision.
This work is part of several low-water crossings countywide being addressed with funding from the 2016 Road Bond.
The purpose of the project was to install new box culverts and increase the height of the bridge by two feet to reduce the likelihood of flooding in this location. The project also improved 352 LF of roadway.
Homes in this part of the neighborhood sustained major damage during the 2013 and 2015 floods. Residents have also been prevented from exiting or entering the neighborhood because of high water over the bridge road.
The main low-water crossing at the entrance to the Chaparral Park neighborhood was repaired a few years ago.
“The completion of this work is another step in upgrading and improving the safety of low-water crossings around Hays County,” Pct. 2 Commissioners Mark Jones said. “Having witnessed the damage from heavy flooding in recent years, I’m grateful to see the roadway completed and to know residents can feel an extra measure of comfort.”
