2015 CTMC CREATION HealthCheck To Offer New, Discounted Rate

Posted by Staff

SAN MARCOS, TX – Registration is underway for Central Texas Medical Center’s (CTMC) 29th annual CREATION HealthCheck, Hays County’s largest health fair. The event will take place on Tuesday, April 28 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Embassy Suites in San Marcos.

Known for providing discounted health screenings, The 2015 CREATION HealthCheck will enable participants to receive more than $500 in important health tests for a low $30 fee.

“We want to make these tests more accessible for our community, and our hope is that more people will take advantage of this low rate, which is down $15 from the previous few years,” said Dalia Hernandez, operations coordinator for the CTMC CREATION Health Institute.

The $30 basic screening panel includes:

•         Complete Metabolic Panel (screening for glucose, renal and liver disorders)

•         Lipid Panel (cholesterol with HDL/LDL breakdown, triglycerides)

•         Complete Blood Cell Count (white blood cell,, hemoglobin, hematocrit and platelets)

CREATION HealthCheck makes several additional screenings available for a low fee as well, including Thyroid Stimulating Hormone, or TSH ($15), Hemoglobin A1C ($15), Vitamin D ($15) and Hepatitis C ($15).

The Carotid Artery Disease (CAD) and Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) screenings cost $30, and qualifying criteria is required to receive those screenings. The CAD screening tests for plaque build-up in arteries associated with increased risk of stroke, and the PAD screening compares blood pressures in a person’s arms to the blood pressure in their legs, which can indicate blockages associated with a higher risk for heart disease and stroke.

Although blood draws will be available on site, participants are urged to register for a pre-event community blood draw prior to the event so they can review their results with a clinical provider at the CREATION HealthCheck event. Photo ID is required to pick up results. If critical values are discovered, the patient will be contacted by telephone immediately. Those who cannot attend the event will receive their results by mail.

Registration will continue through April 10. Blood draw dates and locations are as follows. Each blood draw will take place from 7 to 10 a.m. Participants must fast for at least 8 hours.
