Austin Animal Center Offers Adoption Special For Heartworm Positive Dogs

The Austin Animal Center wants people to know that, if left untreated, heartworms can be serious, but treatment is simple—and free for Austin shelter dogs…

Austin Animal Center is kicking off a promotion to help get heartworm positive dogs into forever homes. Tuesday, June 12 through Monday, June 18 adoption fees for heartworm positive dogs will only be $20. AAC will also give adopters a free crate, in addition to a voucher for free heartworm treatment through Emancipet and six months of heartworm preventative.

Shelter dogs who have tested positive for heartworms often get overlooked by potential families. For many, it’s a fear of the unknown; what are heartworms, how much does it cost to treat, will the dog be okay?

The Austin Animal Center wants people to know that, if left untreated, heartworms can be serious, but treatment is simple—and free for Austin shelter dogs.

The bite of just one mosquito infected with the heartworm larvae can give your dog heartworm disease. With mosquitoes already out in full force in Austin, it is important now more than ever to make sure your pets are protected with a heartworm preventive, available at any veterinarian.
