Arts Commission Selects 10 Artists For Mermaid March

The end result will provide residents of, and visitors to, San Marcos with another opportunity to enjoy and interact with public art.

The San Marcos Arts Commission has selected ten artists to paint the first in a series of mermaid statues to be placed throughout San Marcos as part of the Mermaid March.

The Commission selected artists April Layman, Cheryl Latimer, Darin Wood, Diana Weems, Dough Hiser, Grace Rowland Park, Jamie Kimmel Shelton, Lauren Hofmann, Malachy McKinney, and Morgan Haberle Egan.

Much like the guitars in Austin and the cowboy boots in Wimberley, the Mermaid March will a feature a single form, developed by the Commission for interested artists to reimagine and then display throughout the San Marcos community.

The end result will provide residents of, and visitors to, San Marcos with another opportunity to enjoy and interact with public art.

Upon completing its initial installation, the Commission plans to seek sponsors and additional artists to launch a second wave of Mermaids.
