Athlete Sets Texas State School Record At Texas A&M Team Invitational

Next up for Texas State is a trip to Lincoln, Nebraska for the Adidas Classic on Saturday, January 28.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Senior thrower Julie Lange of the Texas State Track and Field team set a new school record in the weight throw Saturday at the Texas A&M Team Invitational in the Gilliam Indoor Stadium.

At the meet, the Bobcats also posted 32 top 10 Sun Belt Conference marks.

“We’re ahead of where we were last year at this point but still have work to do,” said Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Jody Stewart.

Lange set the new school record on her final attempt with a toss of 19.45m (63-9.75) to take home the meet title. She surpassed the previous mark of 19.26m (63-2.25) set back former teammate Talore Kelly in 2015.

Lange’s toss places her third in the Sun Belt Conference.

T’Mond Johnson shattered his personal record in the shot put with a distance of 17.44m (57-2.75) on his last throw of the event to place second. His toss also placed his first in the SBC.

The sophomore also posted a new personal best in the weight throw for the second meet in a row with a heave of 15.41m (50-6.75) that ranks 10th in the conference.

Also recording a top SBC mark at the invitational was Chelsie Decoud in the high jump. The All-American cleared a height of 1.74m (5-8.5) to win the event.

Courtney Johnson claimed second in the event as the duo claimed the top two spots in the high job for the second straight meet.

Tramesha Hardy posted the fastest time in the conference this season in the 400m with a mark of 55.20 to finish fourth overall.

Hardy was also a member of the 4x400m relay team along with Dawnshae Evans, DeAijha Hicks-Boyce and Sydni Willis to have the fastest time in the SBC at 3:44.23.

In the preliminary heats of the 60m dash, Phillip Green III ran a personal best 6.93. His time was the eighth fastest at the meet and in the league.

The men’s 4x400m relay team of Tyrone Jackson, Dexter Lee, Lincoln Warren and Gilson Umunnakwe laid down the best time in the SBC with a time of 3:12.92.

Also posting top times in the conference were Devina Schneider in the mile with a personal best 4:59.19 and Antonisha Stewart in the 60m hurdles after crossing the finish line in 8.52.

Both Joseph Meade and Joseph Pena have top three times in the conference in the 3000m. Pena ranks second after posting a time of 8:35.36 to finish ninth at the meet and Meade crossed the line in 8:37.43 that is the third fastest in the league.

Jackson finished fifth in the 800m in 1:52.49, the second best time in the Sun Belt Conference. Noe Belmares, Jr. was ninth in the race (1:56.16) for the fifth-fastest mark in the league.

In the women’s race, Esther Oyetunde (7th), Nikki Sanchez (9th) and Erin Williams (5th) posted top 10 times in the SBC this season.

Cody Schulz recorded two top 10 conference marks in College Station. The Marble Falls, Texas native leapt 6.95m (22-9.75) in the long jump and ran a personal best 22.15 in the 200m that rank third and ninth, respectively.

Other Bobcats posting top five marks in the conference were Nia Dorner (200m), Abby Hani (60m hurdles), Michael Madu (triple jump), Logan Pittdman (mile) and Lee (200m).
