The Austin Animal Center is waiving adoption fees for large dogs starting Wednesday until Sunday, and asking for temporary fosters, to prevent the shelter from needing to use pop-up crates to house an overflow of dogs.
During inclement weather the shelter experiences an uptick in lost pets brought to the shelter, and with more storms in the forecast through next week, the shelter is pleading for help from the community.
The shelter’s biggest need right now are adopters, but for those not able to adopt, temporary fosters are being processed Wednesday through Friday from 11am – 6pm. Potential fosters only need to visit the shelter between those hours with a valid photo ID and their foster application will be processed on the spot. Shelter staff will be on hand to match new fosters to the perfect dog for them, but you can also view available dogs for foster here: https://trello.com/b/5uDfx2hm.
Regular adoption fees are $75 and include spay or neuter surgery, age appropriate vaccinations, a microchip and engraved ID tag.
The Animal Services Office operates the Austin Animal Center, the largest municipal animal shelter in Central Texas and the largest “no-kill” shelter in the United States. We provide shelter to more than 17,000 animals annually. Our goal is to provide a safe place for lost and homeless animals and to educate our community in order to prevent animal homelessness and promote compassionate treatment of animals and responsible pet ownership.
