Beginners Gothic Calligraphy With Illumination Class Starts At The Price Center

San Marcos, TX – The LifeLong Learning Organization of San Marcos (LLL) and Price Center are teaming up to present local calligrapher, poet, and illuminator Michael Hannon’s workshop on Gothic calligraphy and illumination beginning May 9.

The workshop has a small fee and requires participants to bring in certain supplies along with a favorite quote, phrase or passage to transform into a completed work of calligraphy with illumination.

“The beauty of medieval manuscripts is strangely enchanting on so many levels,” said Dr. Marianne Reese, LLL founder. “We’re delighted to be showcasing Michael, whose work in this area over the past 30 years is quite moving.”

The Workshop will be offered every Wednesday from 10 a.m. – Noon, May 9 – June 13. A $35 Registration is required in advance. To register, or for more information, including a complete course description with materials list, stop by the Center.

Hannon currently has a number of his unique creations on display in the Center’s historic 1893 Room. His works range from Asian influenced to Gothic to works entirely of his own, including a number with his own prose.

He will be on hand during the upcoming Third Thursday activities at the Center on April 19 from 6-9 p.m. to talk about his work and the upcoming workshop.
