Texas State Bobcats Take On No. 18 Longhorns Friday Night

SAN MARCOS, Texas – On Friday, Sept. 7, the Texas State soccer team plays its fifth consecutive match on the road with its toughest test of the season against 18th-ranked Texas. The match will start at 6 p.m. at the Mike A. Myers Stadium and Soccer Field.

The contest will air on the Longhorn Network and will also be streamed on the WatchESPN app. Calling the action will be Glenn Davis and Kate Markgraf. Live stats will also be available with a link on the schedule page.

Please note that there is a Clear Bag Policy in effect for fans when attending Texas Athletic events. Heading into the match, the Bobcats are 2-4-0 on the year while the Longhorns are 4-0-1 overall.

It was her first time she found the back of the net since her freshman campaign. The junior added an assist on Haley Groff’s score late in the match.

Kaylee Davis and Kondikoff have both scored two goals to pace Texas State. Kondikoff also has a team-high two assists. Heading into Friday with an assist apiece are Cameron Hart, Mackenzie Smith, Holly Streber, Genesis Turman and Groff.

In goal, Heather Martin has made a team-high 20 saves with a .870 save percentage and has a 1.00 GAA. Kathryn Budde enters having played a team best 282:26 minutes between the posts. She has a 1.27 GAA, .789 save percentage and a career-high 15 saves this year.

Friday will be the second time in program history that the Bobcats have faced a ranked opponent during the regular season. The only other time was on Sept. 2, 2001 when facing 19th-ranked William & Mary in Colorado Springs, Colo. The Tribe would go on to win that day 3-0.

Scouting Texas

Texas is coming a 2-1 victory over Long Beach State and a 5-0 win against Stephen F. Austin last weekend in its first home matches of the season. The Longhorns also has victories over Rice (3-0) and then 23rd-ranked UCF (2-1) while tying with then fourth-ranked North Carolina (1-1). Friday is the third of seven straight home matches for the Longhorns.

Cyera Hintzen, an All-Big 12 Conference preseason selection, leads UT with five goals, two matching-winning scores, 14 shots and nine shots on goal. Cydney Billups is the only other player on the team with multiple goals with two, both of which came on Sunday against the Lady Jacks. Six other players have also found the back of the net once this season.

Entering the match with a team best four assists is Katie Glenn. Assisting on two goals apiece has been Kayra Dollas and Tecora Turner.

Julia Grosso is a freshmen midfielder with international experience. She has missed UT’s last two matches while getting the call to play for the Canadian Women’s National Team. Grosso saw 20 minutes of action on Sunday in the team’s 1-0 victory over Brazil.

In between the posts, Nicole Curry has started all five matches and comes in with a 0.63 GAA, .824 save percentage and 14 saves. Savannah Madden played the final 45 minutes against SFA and made a stop in her first action of the season.

Series vs. Longhorns

Texas leads the all-time series 2-0 over Texas State. Friday is the second meeting ever in Austin with the first taking place on Sept. 20, 2013. That day saw the Longhorns come away with a 3-0 victory. The last meeting between the programs was on Sept. 21, 2014 in San Marcos with UT winning 2-0.

TXST Soccer Alumni Weekend

Texas State is celebrating its Alumni Weekend Sept. 7-9 to celebrate the program’s 20th season. Starting the festivities off will be a pre-match celebration in Austin prior to the match with the Longhorns.

Saturday will see the alumni compete in a small-sided soccer tournament and other games. A luncheon will be held afterwards to tour the updated soccer facilities and a chance to meet with this year’s team. An alumni tailgate will be held prior to the football home opener and during the game alumni will be recognized on the field.

The weekend closes with a Sunday brunch at head coach Kat Conner’s house.
