SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State men’s basketball team will put three winning streaks on the line Thursday night in Strahan Coliseum against ULM at 7:30 p.m. The Bobcats enter the game having won seven straight Sun Belt Conference home games, six consecutive games in San Marcos and riding a five-game overall winning streak.
Entering the game, TXST is 12-7 on the season and currently tied for second with a 5-1 mark in conference play while the Warhawks are 7-9 overall and 1-4 in the SBC.
The game will be broadcast locally on KCWX-TV in San Antonio with Mike Lefko (play-by-play) and Chuck Miketinac (analyst) calling the action. Channels for the station are the following: Spectrum (4 | 1215 HD), AT&T U-Verse (2 | 1002 HD), Grande (2 | 802 HD), DIRECTV (2) and Dish TV (2). Fans outside of the San Antonio viewing area can stream the game on ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app.
Bill Culhane will have the call on the radio with the game being broadcast on AM1300 The Zone out of Austin and KTSW 89.9 FM out of San Marcos. Fans can also listen to the game through the iHeartRadio and TuneIn Radio apps on their mobile device. Live stats will be available for the game with a link on the team’s schedule page.
Nijal Pearson has scored in double-digits in 12 straight games and is averaging a team-high 14.2 points per game for the season. He is also putting up 6.1 rebounds per game, 2.1 assists and 1.4 steals per game. His 31 made three-pointers are the second most on the team.
Heading into Thursday’s matchup with a team-high 6.2 rpg is Immanuel King. The Rocky Mount, North Carolina native has made 60.3 percent of his shots and is netting 10.2 ppg. He is tied for the team lead with 15 blocks along with Eric Terry, who is contributing 6.2 ppg and has made 63.8 percent of his field goal attempts.
Alex Peacock is coming off his second game-winning basket in SBC play. The junior is putting up 7.6 ppg and 5.1 rpg while also recording 23 steals. Tyler Blount contributes 7.5 ppg with a team leading 32 made three-pointers and 41.6 shooting percentage from beyond the arc.
Since taking over as the team’s primary point guard, Tre’Larenz Nottingham has handed 17 assists and turned the ball over five times for a 3.4 assists-to-turnover ratio. He has also scored 12.3 ppg on 13-of-25 (52.0%) shooting and is 9-for-16 (56.3%) on long distance attempts.
Scouting ULM
ULM is coming off an 82-48 loss at Louisiana on Saturday. The Warhawks have also dropped Sun Belt games to Appalachian State, Arkansas State and Little Rock. Their lone victory was at home over Coastal Carolina, 82-72, on Jan. 4. When playing on the road, ULM is 0-7 this season.
Three players are averaging double-digit points per contest for the Warhawks paced by Sam McDaniel’s 15.6 ppg. He also leads the team in made three-pointers (34), three-point percentage (44.7) and free throw percentage (87.7). The senior has made 47.4 percent of his shots and is second on the squad with 5.2 rpg and 41 assists.
Travis Munnings enters the contest with team-highs in minutes played (31.6), field goal percentage (50.8) and rebounding (6.6). He is netting 15.2 ppg with 28 made treys and a 44.4 three-point percentage.
Averaging 10.8 ppg and 4.2 rpg is Marvin Jean-Pierre. He paces the Warhawks with 20 steals and six blocks.
Both Michael Ertel (8.6) and Jordon Harris (8.3) are contributing over eight points a contest each. Of Ertel’s 51 made field goals, 30 have come from beyond the arc.
All-Time vs. Warhawks
ULM leads the all-time series over Texas State 28-20. Last season saw the Bobcats win all three meetings and end the Warhawks season in the SBC Tournament quarterfinals 63-51 that saw TXST hold them scoreless for 13:29. Last year in Strahan Coliseum, the Bobcats won 63-57 as Pearson scored a game-high 18 points and Kavin Gilder-Tilbury recorded a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds. When playing in San Marcos, the teams have split the previous 22 meetings.
