Moving and Storage Company to open a consolidated facility for Central Texas in San Marcos with an initial capital investment of $9.5 million, creating 15 jobs |
SAN MARCOS, TX – The Greater San Marcos Partnership (GSMP), the economic development organization for Hays and Caldwell Counties, today announced that moving and storage company, PODS Enterprises Inc., has chosen to consolidate its Central Texas operations into one location in San Marcos, Texas, creating 15 warehouse operations jobs. Founded in 1998, PODS currently provides moving and storage services to a population of more than 240 million consumers, in 48 U.S. states, Canada, Australia, and the UK through its company-owned and independent franchise network. To date, the PODS network has completed more than 250,000 long-distance relocations, exceeded one million deliveries and has over 140,000 PODS® containers in service. The new 56,000 square-foot facility will be located at 2821 Leah Avenue, with a total capital investment of $9.5 million.
“For PODS, location was the key as the company was looking to locate both their Austin and San Antonio markets into one main site,” remarked Adriana Cruz, President of the Greater San Marcos Partnership. “San Marcos’ strategic location along IH-35 and proximity to SH-130 made it an ideal spot for the company to consolidate their Central Texas base. The city’s access to Austin and San Antonio combined with build-to-suit opportunities will increasingly prove to be some of our biggest assets as we continue to recruit jobs to and increase investment in the two-county region.”
GSMP, in collaboration with the City of San Marcos, supported this investment via collaboration with key leadership from PODS® throughout their six-month long site selection process.
“When it came time to consolidate our operations into one central location for our Austin and San Antonio markets, the San Marcos region was an obvious choice,” said PODS Representative Glenn Couch, Vice President of Uniprop. “This location with access to two major roads that connect the markets, the availability of land, and the assistance we received from the Greater San Marcos Partnership and the City of San Marcos were all factors in our decision. We are happy to be here and ready to get going.”
There are currently four storage centers in the ten-county region that make up the Austin and San Antonio MSAs located in New Braunfels, Pflugerville, Round Rock, and the city of San Antonio.
Since October 1, 2012, over 500 new jobs were announced in the Greater San Marcos Region through corporate expansions and relocations, including the 15 jobs announced today for PODS®. These expansions and relocations represent a myriad of industries spanning from General and Advanced Manufacturing and Materials to Corporate/Professional Operations and Aerospace/Aviation and Supply Chain Management. |
