San Marcos, TX – Cenikor Foundation’s Youth Recovery Community (YRC) program will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, January 30, at 10:30 a.m. as part of the grand opening of its community center at 1205 Hwy 135, Ste. 102, San Marcos, TX 78666.
Senator Judith Zaffirini, PhD. will be the featured speaker. The public is invited at no cost to attend.
The event will open with a proclamation from Senator Zaffirini to commemorate the grand opening. The community center welcomes 13 to 21-year-olds in recovery from substance use disorder.
Its mission is to create a safe environment that instills friendship, fun, and education.
The YRC program empowers participants to become engaged in their community while promoting leadership, teamwork and a lifestyle free from substance use.
“Maintaining sobriety is difficult, and relapse is common, but no one has to do it alone,” expresses Carla Merritt, Senior Prevention Manager of Cenikor. “Every young person is worthwhile, so we are here to offer attention, support and acceptance.”
The new community center will create a safe space for those in recovery to meet friends, share experiences and empower each other.
Support groups, volunteer opportunities, as well as academic and employment support are offered as resources to lead successful lives. The program also offers recreational activities.
“We are proud to have these important services available for youth,” adds Bill Bailey, President and CEO of Cenikor. “It is critical we help them understand the rewards of maintaining a sober lifestyle. Recovery is a journey, and we commit to help individuals every step of the way.”
