Contractor Chosen To Build Texas’ New Bullion Depository

AUSTIN — The Texas Comptroller’s office announced today that Lone Star Tangible Assets (LSTA) has selected MHT Constructors, LLC, as general contractor to build the Texas Bullion Depository.

“MHT Constructors has the kind of expertise and experience needed to build a world-class bullion depository that will keep Texans’ gold and other precious metals secure,” said Tom Smelker, administrator of the depository and director of Treasury Operations at the Comptroller’s office.

Based in Austin, MHT Constructors is one of the region’s premier design-build contractors. Its projects range from 5,000 to 1 million square feet in size and include a variety of buildings, encompassing stick frame structures, flex office/warehouses, tilt-up buildings, metal buildings, site concrete work, interior tenant finish-out, distribution facilities, retail stores and big box warehouses.

“We’re dedicated to working with the Texas Comptroller’s office and Lone Star Tangible Assets to design and build a depository that will make the state of Texas proud,” said Howdy Tucker, managing partner of MHT Constructors.

Construction on the multi-acre site in Leander is expected to begin this month. The facility will include space for highly secure precious metals storage and will incorporate the latest technology in security systems, including advanced perimeter defense and high-definition security cameras.

In 2017, the Comptroller’s office selected LSTA as the vendor to operate the depository, which opened in Austin in June. The current space will continue to serve as the depository’s temporary location until the new facility is complete.
