Martin Named to Google Cloud Academic All-America® Second Team

Martin boasts a perfect 4.00 GPA and is majoring in psychology. She has twice been named to the Sun Belt Conference Commissioner’s List and is a two-time recipient of the Texas State Star of Excellence.

AUSTIN, Texas – Texas State’s Heather Martin was selected to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® Second Team for Division I women’s soccer on Thursday.

She is the third Bobcat all-time to be named to one of the teams and it is the second straight year a TXST player has been recognized for the honor.

The teams are voted on by members of College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.

Martin boasts a perfect 4.00 GPA and is majoring in psychology. She has twice been named to the Sun Belt Conference Commissioner’s List and is a two-time recipient of the Texas State Star of Excellence. Four times the junior has been named to the Texas State Dean’s List.

On the pitch, Martin concluded her record setting junior season by setting Bobcat season marks with a 0.45 goals against average, .919 save percentage and nine shutouts.

Her save percentage was the second best in the nation, second highest in Sun Belt Conference history and ranks as the 23rd best in NCAA Division I history. The Midlothian, Texas native’s GAA ranks third in Sun Belt history and ended up being the seventh highest in Division I this season.

Martin ended the season with a career-high 91 saves, the fifth most in TXST history. In her three seasons in a Bobcat uniform, she is third in program history with 212 career saves.

The junior goalkeeper recorded a record of 11-2-4 between the posts. Her victory total is tied for the fifth most in a season in program history while the four draws matched a program record set during the team’s inaugural season. In her career, she has 25 victories to place her in a tie for second in Bobcat history.

Martin’s performance in goal helped Texas State claim its first-ever Sun Belt regular season championship, go undefeated in conference play (8-0-2) for the third time in program history and reach the finals of the Sun Belt Championship for the first time since joining the league.

The Bobcats also ended the season on a 13-match unbeaten streak that is tied for the longest active streak in the nation with Boston and UCLA.

The Sun Belt’s coaches awarded her performance on the field by selecting her as the conference’s Defensive Player of the Year. Martin was also picked to the All-Sun Belt First Team for the second straight year.

With her selection, Martin joins Sarah Buchrucker and Rachel Grout as the only Bobcats to make a Google Cloud Academic All-America® Team. Buchrucker was a second team selection in 2002 and Grout made the third team in 2017.
