As part of Central Texas Medical Center’s (CTMC) ongoing breast care initiatives, the hospital has implemented a unique service for breast cancer patients.
If a patient has an abnormal mammogram, the Navigator Program at the CTMC Women’s Center for Breast Health assists with providing further diagnostics and follow-up services, answering questions and explaining options as outlined by the patient’s physician. Lesley Castillo, navigator for the program, serves as a liaison between the patient and their treatment providers.
“In addition to coordinating health care services for breast patients, I’m here to provide education and emotional support for the patient and their family members,” Castillo said.
The CTMC Women’s Center for Breast Health is a first-of-its-kind resource in Hays County that was designed with the special needs of breast cancer patients in mind. It combines diagnostic imaging, support, surgical services and reconstruction in one convenient location. Mammograms and bone density studies are completed in the center’s spa-like atmosphere, and no referral is necessary for the screenings. For more information, visit ctmc.org.
