The Hays County League of Women Voters held their Primary Debate on Monday for Hays County Candidates.
The candidates running for the following offices were invited
Hays County candidates in contested races in the primary election discussed their qualifications for office and answered questions from the League and the audience. Candidates, who are running unopposed, greeted citizens and distributed campaign literature before and after the debate.
Citizens were encouraged to attend the debate to learn of issues important to the Hays County community. Kaylene Ray was the moderator. The event was coordinated by LWV event coordinator Jeannie Lewis.
Earlier candidates received questionnaires prepared by the League of Women Voters. Their responses will be published in the Voters Guide, which is available to the public here and on the LWV’s website.
Citizens are encouraged to use the non-partisan online guide to voting, Vote 411.org. Upon entering a home address, a citizen can view and compare the candidates’ responses for a particular voting precinct.
Known as the League of Women Voters of Hays County these days, the League is a non-partisan organization open to both women and men dedicated to voter awareness and education.
The League believes in the representative form of government and individual liberties established in the Constitution of the United States. A guiding principle of the League is that “government depends upon the informed and active participation of its citizens and requires that governmental bodies protect the citizen’s right to know by giving adequate notice of proposed actions, holding open meetings and making public records accessible.”
In addition to the Debate, the League will hold a Forum for District and State Primary Candidates. That Forum is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 15, at 6:30 p.m. at the Activity Center.
In-person early voting begins Tuesday Feb. 20 and ends Friday, March 2. Election date for the Primary is Tuesday, March 6.
