On Friday, May 31, the San Marcos Police Department reported that a former San Marcos High School teacher turned himself into Hays County Jail.
According to SMPD, David Ross Guerrero was in Hays County Jail after a former SMHS student reported a sexual assault on November 28, 2018. The victim said they had engaged in a sexual relationship with a teacher at the school in 2008.
At the time of the incident, Guerrero had been employed as an English Teacher and Assistant Women’s Soccer Coach at the high school; he left SMCISD in 2013.
On Friday, police said Guerrero was currently residing in Colorado. SMPD Detective Robert Elrod began an investigation and determined that Guerrero had engaged in sexual intercourse with the victim on approximately six separate occasions.
SMPD issued two arrest warrants for Guerrero on Friday, May 24, for the offenses of Sexual Assault of a Child and Improper Relationship between Educator and Student.
According to the Hays County records, Guerrero was released from jail on May 31 on two attorney bonds of $75,000.00.
Information gathered during the investigation leads SMPD to believe there may be other similar victims at SMHS between 2007 and 2013.
